whatcha waiting forCOZ THERES BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * It was a curious little blonde that stuck her head around the corner, looking for the man only moments ago she’d sworn she’d seen floating down the corridor. He didn’t have any feet and Evie was confused. Her attempts to be stealthy were failing miserably as she kept tripping over her feet. Upon seeing there was no one in corridor, she pouted, her little hand gripping the plush kitten she was carrying around with her. She’d first seen the man in her room, while she’d been in bed .Of course male patients weren’t allowed in the girls rooms and none of the male staff members ever went in either so it had at first scared her, considering previous events. But then curiosity had gotten the better of her. Evelyn had followed him through the twisting corridors and consequently she was lost, although she hadn’t noticed this detail yet. Letting out a small huff of frustration, the blonde turned the corner completely. There were a few doors but apart from that it seemed to be just a straight corridor. How could someone simply just disappear?
Evie nibbled on her bottom lip, arms coming up to sit over her chest, hugging the toy she’d brought with her. The one thing she had as a reminder of her parents. Evelyn had only been sent to Crescent Hills a few months ago, with the promise that her parents were going to come back for her. She didn’t understand why she was here, just that every week she had to talk to someone who asked her how she was feeling and attended school on week days .This routine gave her life structure and reassurance, making her feel safe. For the first time since she’d jumped out of bed, Evie became acutely aware that her surrounding was not one she was familiar with. Wide eyes glanced over the walls as a small ball of anxiety formed at the pit of her stomach. It was times like this she needed someone; a counselor, a friend, even just a stranger. Just to make it appear less desolate.
There was an eerie chill that seemed to fall over the area and the short girl’s heart picked up speed. What she was scared of exactly, Evie wasn’t sure of, there was just a switch in her head that had set off and alerted her to the fact where she was could be in danger. Although she wasn’t to sure where she was meant to go. Spotting a door to the left, she scuttled towards it quickly, pushing down on the handle gently. The door creaked open and Evie stepped inside quickly, her chest rising and falling heavily. The room was full of what appeared to be old chairs and tables, a bookcase and just general junk. Junk to most people but to Evelyn, a treasure trove. Placing her cat toy on top of one of the over turned chairs, she walked further into the depths of the room, eyes wide with wonder as her hand traced lightly over the objects surrounding her. How could she not have known about this place and why was it so far away from everything else?

Wrapped in a striped comforter, Matthews slept soundly. Her dreams were filled with annoying laughter. Someone in her dream would talk but instead of words the laughing would come out. She turned in her sleep the laughtter growing ever more louder. Eventually the girl couldn't bear it and she awoke. Rubbing her eye Matthews laid on her back only to be met with the little girl ghost. Matthew blinked and laid flat on the bad. "You've been keeping me up?" The little girl just laughed and stared at her. Matthew chewed her lip and growled slightlty. Sitting up she combed her slender fingers through her jet black hair, sighing loudly, the little girl still hovering over her. "Really? You don't have any one else to haunt right now. I have to be up in a few hours." The little girl didn't respond. "And now I'm talking to a ghost, fanatastic." The little girl laughed and Matthew growled, jumping from the bed. "Shut up." The ghost laughed again and stood on the ground, taunting Matthews.
"Shut up." Matthews said again. When the girl laughed even louder than before Matthew took off towrads the girl. It only made her giggle and run as well. She phased through the wall, running silently down the hall. Matthews opened the door, taking off down the hall as well. Occasionally the little girl would look back and giggle. The little girl was getting further and further in front of Matthews despite her attempts to run faster. The little girl turned around the corner. Sliding around the corner as well she caught up with the ghost just in time to see it phase through a door. Panting slightly Matthews walked up to the door and opened it slowly, revealing a set of stairs.
Grumbling to herself the jet black haired girl walked down the long flight of stairs and into the basement's storage room. Eyeing the area she didn't see the ghost girl anywhere. "Damn it." Combing her fingers trhough her hair she shook her head. Her eyes fell on the lone cat toy on a chair. Arching her eyebrow slightly she walked over to it and squatted down so her eyes were even with the toy's. "Who do you belong too." Matthews mumbled before picking it up and looking at it. Maybe it was the ghost girl's. She titled her head to the side and stuck her tongue out at the toy.

whatcha waiting forCOZ THERES BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Evie was lost in her own little world. Her attention span wasn’t all that long and so as soon as her eyes had danced over one item they’d moved onto the next. If she could find her way back here again, she was defiantly going to make someone play hide and seek with her. The game could go on for hours, exactly what Evie would want. As per usual, the petite blond was tripping over her own feet and the scattered items on the floor. Bending down, she picked one of them up. It was an old book; it looked like a notebook or someone’s diary. The blonde dropped it quickly, she’d always been told that prying was rude and a sin. Sinning wasn’t something she was big on doing. Her attention was quickly stolen from the junk around her though, at the sound of laughter, a little girl’s laughter and then the door opening. The fear she’d previously felt was forgotten and a spark of excitement took its place. Was there someone else in here? Another little girl, someone she could play with? Now she just had to find her way out of the mess and back to the door.
Evelyn attempted to pick her feet up and move swiftly .She was failing though, miserably, knocking things down, making a lot of noise. Letting out a small ‘ouch; as she fell into the side of a bookcase, the blonde lifted her head, blowing her fringe from her eyes. The sight she saw made her smile. Another female, with short dark hair holding her cat. Actually, she was sticking her tongue out at him. Evie giggled, she couldn’t help it. “He likes it better if you scratch behind his ears” she spoke up, baby blue eyes gleaming just a little as she watched the two of them. She was smart enough to know the cat wasn’t real but all children like to think their toys are alive in some way, right? Without thinking she walked towards the girl, stopping at her side. Evie had to look up to actually see her; being only 5 foot one had some disadvantages. Reaching a hand up she ran it over the top of the other girls head briefly, smiling to herself. ‘I like your hair”. Stranger danger and personal space didn’t exist in Evelyn’s world. She immediately liked everyone she met, no exceptions.
Retracting her hand, Evie wrapped both behind her back, watching the girl curiously. “His name’s kitty.” she grinned for a moment, happy that she had company before quickly adding “And I’m Evie”. It was almost impossible to miss the fact that Evelyn didn’t speak like other people her age. Physically she hardly appeared to be nineteen, nor did her voice or words give any impression of her being that age. As far as she was concerned, she’d made a new friend. Regardless of what this other girl thought.

Hearing crashing sound off in the distance Matthews turned her head towards the source. Seeing nothing she figured it was that good for nothing ghost. Shaking her short dark hair the girl looked back at the toy and stuck her tongue back out. She never had many toys when she was younger. The few she had were mostly her older sister's who nice enough to share, that and the fact she had always felt too old to play with toys. Frowning softly she ran her hand gently over the cat and sighed. The sorrow turned to anger. Matthews could feel her muscles tense and her grip on the toy tighten. Her blood began to boil as she felt every urge to tear the toy. She suddenly pulled from her fury when she heard a small voice. Turning her head she at first didn't see the owner of the voice and almost thought it was that infernal ghost again but upon looking down she was greeted by a human, a real one. Matthews' face softened greatly looking into the friendly blue eyes. Blinking she looked to the cat then the girl, it must have been hers. "Behind the-oh. Oh." Chuckling slightly she scratched behind it's ears.
If that wasn't a surprise the girl reaching up and touching Matthews' hair. She felt her cheeks heat slightly as the girl rubbed her hair and complimented her. What was Mattie supposed to say. "Thank you. It's the bed head look." The girl chuckled softly and set her hand on the short girl's head, gently. "I like your hair too. Its like my sister's." In fact, other than height, Evelyn had a lot of features as her sister; blue eyes, blonde hair, pearly white teeth. Returning her hand to her side Matthews set the toy back on the upside down chair, pushing her hair back from her face. Most girls would be embarrased to be seen with bed head and clad in only pajamas but not Matthews.
The dark haired girl looked to the cat again when Evelyn introduced it. She couldn't help but let her lips upturn into a smile. The feeling grew even more when she introduced herself. Evie was definately not like most girl. She was very innocent. The girl couldn't be older than fifteen at the most and even that was almost a stretch, Matthews thought. It was cute none the less. Her smile quickly grew wider until it became laughter. Holding her stomach she laughed harder. After a few minutes of laughter she wiped her eyes and regained her composer. "Evie; like the Poke'mon. I like it. It's very-cute." Smiling, Matthews outstretched her hand and chuckled softly again. "I'm Matthews. Nice to meet you."

whatcha waiting forCOZ THERES BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The confusion on the other girl’s face as Evie spoke was evident. But Evelyn was patient and let it register, simply standing there smiling. Maybe this girl didn’t know anything about cats. However she’d done as suggested and scratched the toy behind the ears. It was impossible for Evelyn to contain the grin that had started to spread over her face. Anyone who made friends with Kitty was a good person in her eyes. Although everyone in her mind was a good person. She had way too much faith in humanity. “He says thank you” she nodded, as if confirming the fact, as if she could actually hear the stuffed animal speak. Oh yes, Evie had a vivid imagination, one of the traits that seemed to have landed her in the asylum. It was probably a good thing she didn’t understand about the ghosts here, or what this place was. It more then likely would have scared her senseless and calming down Evie when she was frightened was a difficult task.
Standing beside the dark haired girl, Evie smiled as she chuckled. The sound of laughter and amusement was like music to her ears, it meant a person was happy. Her main objective in life it seemed was to please people, making them happy, despite what that might have meant giving up from herself. “D’you think my bed can make my hair like that to?” Evie tiled her head to the side, just a fraction in curiosity. The hand on her head, made her eyes flutter shut for a brief moment and smile. By nature, Evelyn was an affectionate person. Human contact was always welcomed and it’d been a long time since someone had been so gentle with her. It seemed the staff weren’t all to keen on physical contact with patients, not that Evie though of them as staff, they were just the people who looked after her. Like her parents had done. “I don’t have a sister” once you got Evelyn talking, it was unlikely she would stop. “I just have my mommy and daddy but I have to stay here for a while, then their going to come and get me” her words were happy, unaffected by the reality she was failing to pick up on. There was very little chance her parents would come back , it seemed no one from here was claimed again.
“And Kitty to, he sleeps with me” once the other girl had placed the cat back on the chair, Evie reached out and picked him up by one of his legs, holding him upside down contently. She watched curiously as the girl started to laugh, holding her stomach, and not understanding what was so funny. “Well, it’s really Evelyn but you can call me Evie, everybody does” she gave another small smile, her hands running through the whiskers on the toy cats face. Glancing at the hand that had been outstretched, the little blonde grinned and grasped her own small one around it. Not in the fashion of a hand shake as Matthews probably expected. Instead she was now holding it tightly, having miss-understood the girls intentions. “It’s nice to meet you to Matthews” the petite blondes nose screwed up a little as she smiled, her hands now completely occupied. “Did you come here to play hide and seek?”

At the question of her hair Matthew shrugged faintly. "I'm not sure. Your hair is so straight. It might frizz out. It's cute straight, though." Matthews smiled, looking down at the girl. Listening to the girl speak about her mother and father coming to get she tried not to let her face fall. She was feeling a mixture of jealousy and sorrow for the girl. It could very well be possible that her parents would come back for her when she was better and if that happened then it only made Matthews realize how much she wasn't wanted and would probably stay here for most of her life. There was the fact that most kids who get dropped off here rarely ever went home. It made Matthews feel bad for the obviously naive girl but if it made her happy to cling to the hope of her parents return who was Matthews to destory that hope. All the dark haired girl could was smiled gently and nod. "That's great. I'm sure they'll come for you soon."
Instead of her hand being shook like a normal person might have done, Evelyn held onto Matthew's hand. The girl blushed faintly and looked from her hand to the young girl. "Evelyn. That's a very pretty name then. I do like Evie, though. It suits you I think." She giggled and adjusted her hand in Evie's so their fingers laced loosely before setting her hand back on her head. This girl was quiet adorable. She felt strangely protective over the blonde, though they just met. At the mention of hide and seek Matthews couldn't help but giggle. She hadn't played that game since she was very young. Her and her sister would play, that is, until her sister out grew the game forcing Matthews to as well.
"I would love to play with you Evie but I can't right now. I really should be finishing my studies." Her eyes studied the girl's features. They were petite, even her hand was small and child like. She remembered being that young, though she was never as happy, Matthews would admit. None the less she remembered when her sister out grew the game and the first time she was turned down when wanting to play; it tore her heart in two. Afraid of doing the same to the blonde Matthews quickly added: "But I guess I could play a few rounds befofre I should actually start."

whatcha waiting forCOZ THERES BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Evie watched the girl as she spoke, wide eyes not leaving her face. Everyone seemed a lot wiser then she was and so she had a habit of believing whatever she was told. “Then I shall leave it straight” she spoke as if proclaiming a very important fact because to Evie this was an important fact. If Matthews believed that her hair wouldn’t go like her own, then she wouldn’t attempt it. The dark haired girl smiled at her and Evie felt the familiar warmth spread through her. Happiness, the emotional that seemed to stick to her like glue. Nodding enthusiastically at the idea of her parents coming to get her soon she spoke in hurried words. “I hope so, I miss them” she turned her head, looking at the girl in wonder. “Is your mommy and daddy going to come and get you soon?” this whole situation to her seemed like some sort of camp. People came, stayed for a while then were picked up again. It Matthews had a sister; she must have had parents to, right? Evelyn had never spoken to an orphan so she had no idea of that concept. Her logic was all very simple and straight forwards.
Evie failed to notice the girl blushing as she took her hand, instead letting it be maneuvered so their fingers locked together loosely. Obviously she had wanted to hold hands, another person who liked affection. Wonderful. Evelyn smiled, feeling more and more at home by the second around her. “Thank you, I like Matthews to, it’s pretty” however it was much to long, so she was going to have to give her a nickname. Upon the hand being placed back on her head, the little blonde had the sudden urge to purr, however she couldn’t being human and so instead let out a contented little sigh. Her happy expression faltered a little as the other girl said she had to study. Evie hadn’t had siblings growing up, she’d had to play by herself and it was no different now, she could do it again. However playing with someone else was always more fun. “Oh…that’s okay” she tried not to let the disappointment in her voice show. Evelyn didn’t have studies, not ones out of class anyway. Probably because they’d come to realize she didn’t have the attention span to be able to focus on anything long enough to get it done.
At the declaration of a few round being played first, Evie’s happy persona came back and she quickly untangled her hand from Matthews, jumping back a few steps. I’m going to go hide, count to twenty and no peeking Mattie!” as she finished saying this, Evie turned, cat still in hand and ducked behind one of the over turned tables , her feet thumping heavily on the ground. Now where was she going to hide? Spotting an old cupboard that was raised slightly off the floor; she gripped her fingers around the door handle, pulling it open slightly as it let out a squeak. Hoping Mattie hadn’t heard the door Squeak, Evie jumped inside, bringing Kitty with her. Now all she could do was hide and wait, although she fairly sure the spot she’d chosen wasn’t somewhere to sus. Silly little naïve girl.

The dark haired girl couldn't help but let her smile falter at the notion of her parents coming to get her. Truth be told Matthews would most like stay here until her sister eventually found out and demanded she be released or the doctors declared her mentally stable enough to be on her own. It was a rotten feeling being able to know that your parents didn't care about you or what could happen to you. None the less she tried to smiled and give reassurence to the petite blonde. "Maybe one day." Matthews said gently. Evelyn pulled from her hand and excitedly ran off to hide. "I won't." The girl replied before turnng around and counting out loud. After seeing those small features droop with disappointment Matthews was kind of glad she stayed. The girl couldn't stand to see such a cute girl unhappy. "17..18..19..20. Ready or not, here I come." Matthews said before turning on her heels to search the basement for the blond. Who know how long it would take her to find Evie.
Being small was always an advantage to this game. When Mattie was younger she was able to hide in so many more places than her sister. She now knew how it felt to play with some one smaller than yourself. The girl looked under table and around desks realizing how perfect of a place to play this really was. There were so many oppertunistic places to hide. "Maybe if I throw a Poke'ball at her she'll come out." The dark haired girl muttered before looking under a desk. "Hm." She said scratching her cheek.
"Evie. Where are you?" Mattews called out to no one imparticular. Opening wardrobe she saw no one in but somethign did catch her eye. Behind a table were faint foot print marks from where the ground was covered in a thin layer of dust. There was distrubance in the dust looking oddly like foot prints walking. Upon following them to where they stopped she was graced by yet another wardrobe. Smirking slightly Matthews rapped on the door with his knuckled and spoke softly. "Knock knock."

whatcha waiting forCOZ THERES BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * She could hear Mattie counting as she was sitting in the cupboard, squished up into the corner. Being small was defiantly an advantage. She could hear the faint noise of footsteps, stopping every now and then and she assumed the dark haired girl was checking for her, in all the wrong places though. Looking at Kitty, she bought a finger up to her lips, telling him to shush; otherwise they were going to get found. It wasn’t to long before she heard the words ”Evie where are you? being called out and the little blonde giggled, hugging her knees into her chest to make herself less visible. Not that anyone could see her in there anyway. She hadn’t taken into account the dust that would have been floating around the room, giving away her hiding spot. It was only a few minutes that there was a light rapping on the door of the wardrobe. She struggled to stifle a giggle and attempted to sit still although her butt was slowly falling asleep.
After Mattie verbally spoke her knocking, Evie jumped up and pushed the doors of the wardrobe open, yelling a small “Boo!”. Hopping down from the cupboards, she bent over and grabbed Kitty, hugging him into her chest tightly. “How did you find me so fast Mattie?” she paused for a moment, thinking “Did you peek?” there was a small accusation to her voice. However an accusation coming from Evie was hardly intimidating. “Kitty says he’ll be on my team, so he’ll look for you with me, is that okay?” she was worried about being unfair towards the other girl especially if it meant she was having an advantage by having Kitty help her. “So now you have to go hide Mattie! This girl had to be careful, if she let her, Evie would steal her for the whole day and she’d never get any of her studies done. Of course the blonde would want to change games and eventually hunger would get the better of her, so leaving this room was going to be essential and hopefully Matthews knew the way out.
Turning her back on the girl , Evie screwed her eyes tight and started counting. One.. two.. three.. four.. five.. six” she wasn’t counting particularly fast but her voice was loud enough to drown out any footsteps the other girl could have been making and lets face it, Matthew would have been more graceful then Evie could ever have hoped to be. Matthews had a lot more then Evelyn could ever hope for, an understanding of the world and the knowledge of how the world really worked. Evelyn was doomed to have the mind set of a child, possibly for the rest of her life. Regardless she was missing out on a lot.

Pressing her ear to the door she could've sworn that she heard giggling behind the doors. Steping back as Evie jumped out the dark haired girl giggled and pushed her hair back. She was such a energetic girl. At Evie's question then her accusation Matthews smiled gently and shook her head. "You left foot prints in the dust. I don't cheat. I've been playing this game a little longer than you have." Technically Evie probably played longer than Matthews considering she stopped playing really young but Matthews was older. The dark haired girl smiled and rubbed the young girl's head playfully. This is how her sister must've felt whenever she played. She seemed to get quiet a kick out of finding Matthews and it made sense why. Evie was cute and even more so when she was found. She wondered if Evie was the same amount of years apart from Matthews as Matthews was from her sister. Giggling slightly Matthews rubbed Evie's head again.
When asked if Kitty could help Evie find Matthews it only made her smile more. She knew that the toy wasn't real but she would humor Evie to make her happy. Nodding slightly she smiled. "Yeah sure. But you have to count to thirty so I have enough time to hide in a good spot. Kitty has to close its eyes too." Matthew sood there for a moment as Evie turned around and began to count. Why was she so cute? Biting her lip gently Matthews tore her eyes away and walked off in to the sea of table and chairs. The girl walked in a spiral motion so that Evie couldn't use her technique against her. As she made a lof of nonsensical footprints Matthews tried to stay concious of how far back she walked. She didn't want Evie to get lost. When Evie's voice stopped counting she Matthews had a slightly twinge of panic.
Quickly ducking underneath a rock of chairs, other chairs stacked upside down ontop of them. Matthews laid flat on the floor, listening to Evie walk and search. Matthews had always been good at this game. She remembered once when she played with her sister it took her almost half an hour to find Matthews. The dark haired girl was smaller then asnd able to hide anywhere so she had many hiding spots her sister knew nothing about.

whatcha waiting forCOZ THERES BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The little blonde stood and listened intently, eyes opened wide as Matthews explained. A small “oh” passed from her lips as she looked at the ground and lifted her feet, noticing there was in fact dust covering the soles of her feet. That was a very clever way to tell where someone was. Evie bit down on her bottom lip, formulating a plan in her head. She was going to look for Mattie’s footprints. After all that’s what children are good at doing right? Copying. Something the girl had said triggered in her memory and for a moment she sucked her bottom lip in, counting in her head. I been playing for nineteen years” she said the words slowly , trying to figure out if that was in fact right. Seemed pretty close. That might have come as a shock to Mattie. Evelyn didn’t look anywhere near her chronological age nor did she act anything like it. One of the problems she’d encountered when coming to the Asylum was that they’d tried to intergrade her with patients much younger then she was, which in theory was a good idea but it meant her records would always have the wrong age on them.
Grinning as her head was rubbed again, Evie stroked the top of Kitty’s head softly. A habit she’d acquired which usually meant she happy or incredibly relaxed, like now. “Okay I’ll make sure he doesn’t peek!” she squeaked happily, pleased that Mattie was willing to go along with her game. As she started to count, Evelyn's hand slipped up over the toy cat’s eyes, she had to stay true to her word after all. Evie had been concentrating too much on trying to remember all her numbers in the right order to even think of listening to where the girl was walking. “Twenty five, twenty six…twenty seven twenty eight …twenty nine...thirty!” she turned quickly, her baby blue eyes scanning the room, not seeing the other girl. “I’m coming to find you” Evelyn half sang the words, her gaze dropping to the ground. There was as she suspected foot prints in the dust, just like she’d left behind. Following them, she walked to a more open part of the floor where the foot prints suddenly appeared to multiply. There was to many to tell where they led off to. Last time she’d checked, Mattie had only had two legs. Maybe the ghost’s had come back and been trying to trick her.
“Kitty can you see her?” she asked quietly, chewing on her bottom lip. It was always more fun hiding. Walking towards one of the old book cases, Evie bent down and checked behind it, not seeing anyone. She stood up, slightly frustrated and confused. There was a lot of places to hide in this room but Mattie hadn’t left any clues as to where she would be. Evie continued to wander for a while , but there was no trace she could see of Mattie anywhere, “I hope she didn’t get lost Kitty” the petite blonde mulled to the Cat toy, placing him on top one of the tables before scrambling up herself, looking around the room. “Mattie Where are you?”

Matthews laid there as still as she could. Hearing Evelyn talk made her giggle slightly. She could hear the confusion on her voice when she saw all of the footprints Matthews left for her. The dark haired girl smiled gently listening to the girl's voice. It was cute and child like. It suddenly hit her what Evie said not only minutes ago. She was nineteen, well atleast nineteen. That was a shock to Matthews. This girl was atleast Matthews age. She neither looked nor acted like it. Maybe being about five foot really threw Matthews off to how old the girl really was. Smiling faintly she chuckeld to herself. Well Matthews didn't feel as creepy thinking the girl was cute now.
Looking to the side, hearing more footsteps, Matthews covered her mouth to stiffle a giggle. She could see the girl's feet only a few feet away, looking at everything else to try and find Matthews. Even as she listened to the girl talk to her toy Matthews found it still difficult to believe this girl was her age. The dark haired girl wanted to scare the girl all of a sudden. How would she do it though. Only having to think for a moment the oppertunity came forth before her when Evie climbed ontop of the table to get a better view of the room. Matthews took a moment to admire her small frame and milk white skin. She would never have found Matthews from up there. It was kind of cute.
None the less Matthews had work to do. She rolled from underneath the chair making sure to stay hidden from Evie. She would only move when Evie wasn't looking. The dark haired girl closed the distance between Evie and herself rather quickly and silently. Evie only feet from her Matthew kept her back against the book case occasionally peeking around to look for the right moment to move the last time. Her moment came when Evie glanced away too look for her more. Matthews scrambled directly underneath the table and looked up. If the table were glass Matthews would be able to see Evie. Covering her mouth to stiffle a giggle the girl quickly composed herself. Putting the palms of her hands on the bottom of the old table, Matthew began to shaked it slightly. Not enough to make Evie fall but enough so she would notice.
